Small talk sucks and is highly overrated

When meeting someone they know unexpectedly, people often engage in small talk with said person so as not to seem rude or awkward. This, however, can be a HUGE mistake. In almost all situations, small talk should only be a last resort when you can think of nothing else to talk about. Why? Well, there are several reasons..
Reason #1: When having an idle chat about things such as weather, hey-how-are-the-wife-and-kids, and the economy, one is likely to run out of things to say, since both participants in the superficial conversation are trying their hardest to keep their statements short and simple. However, even though you may be doing so to save time, you may find it difficult to end the conversation properly so that you can move along.

Reason #2: Some people (such as myself), want nothing to do with small talk and will either try to turn it into a full-blown conversation or will avoid talking to you altogether (at least for the time being).

Reason #3: When engaging in idle conversation, people often blurt out the first answer, statement, or question that pops in to their head to avoid any small, awkward, silence. However, the consequences of neglecting to think twice about your words before speaking them can be quite humiliating....

And so kids, this is why small talk should be avoided at all costs.
